Sludge Biodegradability Testing

Laboratory Test Request Description

MULTIPLE TESTING
Germany Environmental Laboratory needed for complete biodegradability testing in specific by-product (sludge)

1. Initial analytics
The following parameters are recorded by standard:
? ? pH-value
? ? Electrical conductivity
? ? Chemical oxygen demand COD
? ? Nitrogen concentrations (i.e. TNb, NO3-N, NH4-N)
? ? Phosphor concentration (PO4-P)
? ? Solid concentrations in terms of total suspended solids (TSS) or total solids (TS)
? ? Sulphate concentration
? ? Chloride concentration
? ? ICP Analysis
? ? Organic acids (for anaerobic processes)

2. Aerobic biodegradability tests
execution of aerobic batch tests in accordance with the Zahn-Wellens tests. The Results should indicate a maximum degree of degradation as well as the remaining non-biodegradable concentration of organic matter.

3. Aerobic inhibition test (test the inhibition for nitrifiers)
The influence of inhibitory concentrations of different substances (e.g. salts or organic inhibitors) on the degradation performance.
The basis of the experiment is to evaluate changes in degradation rate at different concentrations of a potential inhibiting compound or wastewater.
This is a standard test made for wastewater treatment

4. Flotation tests

The experiments to investigate solids removal by means of flotation basically consist of two parts: The flocculation test (1) and the flotation test with a flotation cell (2).

The flocculation test covers the attempt to find an optimal flocculation pattern in a beaker with possibly different coagulation agents and possibly varying polymeric flocculation aids

Dewatering tests are carried out on a flotation cell with the previously determined dosing quantity of flocculants in order to estimate capture rate or remaining turbidity in clear water phase as well as total solids content of the flotate sludge.

5. Effluent analysis
Same measurements in the effluent as in the inlet
? ? pH-value
? ? Electrical conductivity
? ? Chemical oxygen demand COD
? ? Nitrogen concentrations (i.e. TNb, NO3-N, NH4-N)
? ? Phosphor concentration (PO4-P)
? ? Solid concentrations in terms of total suspended solids (TSS) or total solids (TS)
? ? Sulphate concentration
? ? Chloride concentration
? ? ICP Analysis
? ? Organic acids (for anaerobic processes)
